Clean water saves lives: helping African children get a cup of water

According to Love Binti International's program description, in rural Uganda wells dug with past foreign aid could no longer reliably provide clean water due to climate, environmental and technical factors; residents shared muddy ponds with livestock, risking stomach pain, typhoid and diarrhea, and affecting children's access to education.
Love Binti International improves water quality through wells, rainwater filtration systems and ecological toilets; mbranfiltra's hollow-fiber membrane is a key material for the rainwater filtration.
An ongoing water-resource program. Since 2015, Love Binti International has worked to improve basic living conditions for about 1 million people across 20 rural communities in Uganda (Mukono, Kayunga, Namayingo, etc.); this is the association's overall result, not the outcome of a single product.

What do you do without clean water in extraordinary times? Whether in daily life or disaster response, having usable clean water is a key condition for survival.

What can mbranfiltra's hollow fiber filter out?
Bacteria, microorganisms and microplastics are contaminants commonly met in outdoor drinking water. Microfiltration hollow fiber physically retains bacteria and particles larger than the membrane's rated pore size (e.g. 0.2 μm on the household cartridges); it does not remove dissolved substances such as salts, dissolved metals or dissolved chemicals, and the output is not "pure water". Third-party test results cover E. coli only, for specific samples and dates (see the Technology page); there is no report for microplastics or other microorganisms.
How does the hollow fiber remove bacteria?
The hollow-fiber wall has countless small pores that physically block bacteria and particulate contaminants larger than the membrane's rated pore size (e.g. 0.2 μm on the household cartridges). It does not remove dissolved substances such as salts, dissolved metals or dissolved chemicals, so the output is not "pure water". Third-party test results cover E. coli only, for specific samples and dates (see the Technology page).
How is mbranfiltra different from reverse osmosis?
Reverse osmosis concentrates wastewater and must discharge a share of it. Hollow-fiber microfiltration filters the water as it passes through the membrane, needs no electricity and uses all of the water that passes through; figures depend on the model. The two technologies are not equivalent: reverse osmosis removes dissolved salts, while microfiltration does not.
The world's strongest filter bottle! Ultra-precision filtration material that can "remove bacteria"
Many filter bottles use activated carbon, which adsorbs odours and some substances but does not retain bacteria. mbranfiltra's co-founder and CEO set out to develop a filtration membrane so a bottle could physically hold bacteria back. Frequently Asked Questions
What can the hollow-fiber membrane filter out?
Microfiltration hollow fiber physically retains bacteria and particles larger than the membrane's rated pore size (e.g. 0.2 μm on the household cartridges). Third-party results: E. coli removal/clearance above 99.9% in SGS report PX/2020/A011301 (sample MF02-M1) and BenQ report BDT-NT-231207 (sample MF002) — each for that sample only.
Is the filtered water "pure water"? Does it remove salts or heavy metals?
No. Microfiltration does not remove dissolved substances such as salts, dissolved metals or dissolved chemicals. The Taiwan–US (SUPER LAB) report M61-200200105 tested the membrane filter material itself and found no plasticizers or heavy metals in it — that is a test of what the material contains, not of removing heavy metals from water.
Does it remove viruses?
There is no test report on viruses, so no virus-removal claim is made.
Does it need electricity?
No. Hollow-fiber microfiltration filters the water as it passes through the membrane, so it needs no electricity and discharges no source water. Flow figures are listed per model on each spec card, with the test conditions printed for that model.
Do the test reports apply to every product?
No. Each report covers a specific sample on a specific date (report numbers, samples and dates are listed on the Technology page). It is not a guarantee for the whole product line or for the housings and cartridges on the Products page.
Can you customize?
Microfiltration hollow-fiber membranes can be packaged into cartridges of many sizes and new formats are developed flexibly; the fibers are also supplied to filter-module and cartridge manufacturers. Use the OEM inquiry form with your application and quantity.
